The rise of big data and the analytics processes we work to try and exert upon it is not without its obstacles. Seven major hurdles to big data implementation have been defined for consideration.
CEO & President of Infogix Sumit Nijhawan argues that
technology architecture itself is the first major big data enemy.
More specifically, Nijhawan is referring to the architectural
challenge of integrating 'elements' and data models for big data, which require
proper planning and design.
Bob Plumridge, EMEA CTO at Hitachi Data
Systems says that managing the huge increases in the volume of data flowing
through a business each day is a huge challenge for IT teams.
"Often data isn't classified at the point of creation, leaving
businesses with no way of knowing whether they are looking at HR, sales or
customer data," said Plumridge.
Other key obstacles within the seven enemies of big data include: the danger of amateur data scientists, knowing how far the scope of big data analytics should reach... as well as data culture and general approach to technology.
