The cloud to handle most workloads within two years

9 Sep, 2016 10:15 am

Within two years a big majority of IT workloads will be handled in remote data centers as the cloud continues to gain credibility among IT professionals, according to analyst firm 451 Research.

The cloud will manage some 60 percent of all workloads by mid-2018 compared to 41 percent today, according to the results of a survey of 1,200 IT professionals worldwide, as well as interviews with senior IT executives, 451 Research said.

A number of factors account for the rapid adoption of cloud-based services. Primarily, cloud firms are seen as increasingly better equipped to handle data security demands and to meet regulatory compliance requirements. And now that cloud services have been available for some time, IT professionals have begun to realize they can trust service providers. The cloud also serves the growing need of enterprises to outsource IT services as a result of mergers and staff reductions.
