FedEx invests in driverless trucks to deliver cost savings

FedEx is investing in autonomous vehicles and AI apps which seek to operate with voice-activated personal assistants, such as Amazon Echo, as the logistics giant seeks to capitalize on advances in machine learning technology.

FedEx operates in 220 countries worldwide and therefore has a profound impact on shaping the logistics industry as a whole.

If FedEx's project is successful, the shipping giant would create a new operations model that could disrupt the logistics market that is worth several trillion dollars worldwide.

FedEx did not disclose a timeline by when it hopes to offer automated services to its customers.
