Government-as-a-platform emerging as key digital trend

15 May, 2016 03:50 pm

The UK Society of Information Technology Management has published guidelines on how the concept of Government-as-a-Platform (GaaP) could be extended.

Developed by the UK Government Digital Service (GDS), Government-as-a-Platform aims to establish a strategy where digital public services are built out of common components (predominantly software) rather than being constructed from bespoke systems.
Current developments could see central government technology approaches being extended to local government also.
If the UK's current efforts prove to be successful, other European neighbours could potentially follow the same development thread in their own digital development.
TAKEAWAY THOUGHTGovernments worldwide are developing a 'digital first' approach to boost the adoption of digital services and enable more data sharing and interoperability between the population and public departments.
