Your robot, your personal assistant

6 Feb, 2017 09:00 am

The research division of the Piaggio group, known for its Vespa scooters, has developed a suitcase-sized robot that can carry things as it follows you around.

Called "Gita," the cylindrical-shaped robot has a 20kg load capacity and a maximum speed of 35km/h. It can carry things while accompanying you in office environments, shopping in towns and cities, and walking or jogging in parks. It can also be used to travel autonomously to and from points on maps.

The company hopes its invention will serve as a replacement to cars for certain uses and encourage consumers to walk instead of riding scooters or driving.

A likely first commercial adopter will be the hotel industry, the company says.
